Packing Tips
- Pack the heaviest items first.
On the bottom of the suitcase, pack shoes, travel alarms, etc.
- Use luggage space wisely.
Stuff hosiery into the toes of your shoes. Roll undergarments
and weatshirts to fill space. A full bag helps keep the contents
from sliding and wrinkling.
- Coordinate your wardrobe around one or two basic colors.
Separates are best because they can be mixed and matched. Roll
your outfits together if they are knits. They won't wrinkle and
you won't have to search for all your accessories
- Don't pack too much.
An old traveler's trick is to lay out everything you'll need,
then take half and return the rest to your closet.
- Minimize wrinkling by packing shirts buttoned.
If possible, only fold clothes at the waist and seam. Dry cleaners
will fold shirts when requested.
- Place plastic dry cleaner's bags around clothes to minimize
wrinkling.
Keep each layers as flat and even as possible.
- As you pack, make a list of the contents of your suitcase.
Bring this with you in case your luggage is lost or stolen and
you need to make a claim.
- Carry fragile, valuable or perishable items (tickets, jewelry,
passports) with you.
- Pack laundry soap for your delicate items.
Dry cleaning is often very expensive on the road and laundry facilities
may not be available.
- Be sure your baggage is clearly labeled.
Make sure your name and address is on the inside and outside of
each piece of luggage.
- Pack sample sizes of toiletry articles.
Liquids travel best in plastic containers. Squeeze the air out
of the bottles before fill them up and don't fill them to the
top. Place the containers in plastic bags before you put them
in your suitcase.
- Pack and repack articles in the same order each time.
During short stays, you'll be able to reach into your bags and
find what you want without unpacking completely
